Serpentine Dresser

I picked up this antique Tiger Oak serpentine dresser to paint from Restore, the Habitat for Humanity store.  I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with this, so I first put on a coat of Pure White by Sherwin Williams.  It didn’t look good.  There were too many knicks and bruises on this piece of furniture to paint it a crisp color.   It was screaming for some vintage touches.  I used some leftover Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams on the drawers, and then antiqued everything with Minwax Special Walnut stain.  I distressed the edges by hand and with a rotary sander.  I didn’t use a glaze, I just wiped the stain on with a rag, and immediately wiped it off with a clean rag.  I’ve included some pictures of the sides and top so you can see the effect this made.  I was happy with the final product, but the drawers need some lovin’.  They don’t open and close smoothly.  I think in the Spring I may take this to someone to professionally fix the drawers and then it might find a home in our house somewhere, maybe my new office!
