Gift wrapping with Dollar Tree supplies

I love the Dollar Tree!  Now, this is not Dollar General, or Family Dollar.  At the Dollar Tree everything is actually $1.  As I was looking through Pinterest a couple of weeks ago I was in awe of these beautifully wrapped gifts, and I started thinking, “I wonder if I went to Dollar Tree right now and bought supplies that were readily available in the store, could I re-create some of these looks.”

So, I threw on my coat and out the door I went.  I have to say, I had so much fun at Dollar Tree walking around and envisioning what I could do with “this” or “that”.   I was amazed at what I was finding.  Even buffalo checked wrapping paper!!!

Let’s be real, to go to Wal-mart and get a gift bag and tissue paper will set you back at least $5.  Wouldn’t it be great to spend less money and present your child’s teacher or your mother-in-law with a gift that looks like it came out of magazine for less than a gift bag from Wal-mart.

Now, to be fair, one crucial element to get the look that I was seeing on Pinterest was greenery.  I just went in my yard and cut some stems off of our boxwood shrubs.  I went to my sister’s house and cut a branch off her pine tree, and then to my parent’s house where I cut some stems off of their yew.  In Ohio, these are pretty accessible evergreen shrubs.  You may not have the exact same shrubs available to you, but just walk around outside and see what you think is pretty and cut a piece off.  Use your imagination!

1) Burlap, Black Ribbon, and Boxwood

These were so simple, but I think they look very elegant.  I used the boxwood branches I snipped from my yard, and a small tipped sharpie to draw a little design on the white gift tags.  Everything here I purchased from the Dollar Tree (except greenery).  The pine cones were pulled off of the Pine Floral Picks.  I deconstructed them and used the pieces individually (the pine cones, berries, leaves).

2) Red bells with twine and branches

I was so excited when I saw they had buffalo checked paper!  I knew I would have fun with that.  I thought the twine, red bells, and white gift tags added just the right amount of detail.  $6 to get this look under your tree.

3) Burlap and Black Ribbon

These are also simple and easy, but I think they have an elegant feel.  The eucalyptus was left over from a friend’s wedding.  Super easy, and super cheap.

4) Buffalo plaid with adorable ornaments

The ornaments at Dollar Tree are great!  They are so cute and festive.  I was in love with the little lantern and sled.  This was such a fun blog post to create.

5) Willow Wreath and Boxwood clippings

I know this one is really out of the box, but I love it!  You will probably want to bust out the hot glue gun to get the wreath to stay in place.  Truthfully, to achieve most of these looks, the glue gun will be your friend.

6) Pink Package with Beaded Lettering

I thought this would be so cute for a teen or tween.  I was excited when I saw the beads and baker’s twine in Dollar Tree to do something with it, and I thought this opened up avenues to include “out of the box” gifts for younger girls.

7) Puppy Love

Let’s not leave out the little ones.  Dollar Tree has tons of little figurines and character candy canes.  You can probably find some character that your little one likes and make their present exciting before they even open it!

8) Red Ribbon and Plaid Deer Ornament

The Dollar Tree doesn’t have all the ornaments pictured on their site, but this was one ornament that I loved.  How cute is that plaid reindeer!

8) Blue Ornament and Twine

Supplies

Red is beautiful, and neutral is nice, but I liked the idea of changing the colors up a bit.  This blue ornament and blue baker’s twine was the perfect opportunity to break up all the red and green.  The green under the ornament is some of the clippings from my parent’s yew.

9) Pearlized Ornament and Pine cones

Supplies

Neutral, but pretty.  I used the pine cone that I had deconstructed from the Pine floral pick and pulled off one stem of the Pearlized Berry Bunch.  Again, I put some of the clippings from my parent’s yew behind everything to get the pop of green.  You need that pop of green!

10) Poinsettia flower and Christmas Burlap

This gift was so easy.  I just popped a flower off the poinsettia stem and glued it on the burlap.  The greenery behind the flower was also from an evergreen bush in my yard, but I’m not sure of the name.

12) Goofy Reindeer

This one is silly, but when I saw that blinking nose I just had to use it for something.  I used the greenery for the ears and candy canes for the antlers.  My kids got a kick out of it.
